some good 'ol american pie

1. God and the Universe
-There was a god, but he left so Satan takes over in a way
-“The father, son, and the holy ghost, they caught the last train for the coast”
2. Humanity and Identity
-They’re on their own
-It is mostly a material song because it says “can music save your mortal soul”
-The nature of humans is sinful
-“jester stole the thorny crown”
3. Conflict and Suffering
-The starting point of suffering was “the day the music died”
-The universe is flawed because there is lots of sin and Satan seems to be in control of the world almost.
-“I saw satan laughing with delight the day the music died”
4. Hope and Redemption
-There was a girl that gave him hope but he was rejected.
-“I met a girl who sang the blues and I asked her for some happy news, but she justsmiled and turned away”.
-There isn’t really any hope for tomorrow because it talks about how God left town
5. Values and Relationships
-For them, the music was good
-The devil was bad
6. Reality and Truth
-The music for them is true
-He doubts the Bible or any other religion is true because he asks if you have faith in the God just because it’s in the Bible.

Personally, I think this song written by Don McLean is Secular Humanist because of all the remarks and how he says God left them
